If you browse the web regularly, you probably have favorite web sites that
you visit frequently to check if new information has been posted on your topic
of interest. It is also likely that for each site you visit, you check many
different sections for content updates. This is time consuming, not to mention
tedious, especially if you have many sites to check. Wouldn't it be great if
you knew which web sites have new content at the time you are
browsing? That way, you would only have to go to sites that have
changed.
BusterNews
is a web-based application that will periodically check web sites for new
content, retrieve them for you, and save a summary of the new content. This is
done through RSS feeds provided by web sites.
RSS, or 'Really Simple Syndication', is an Internet standard document format
that allows for easily sharing information such as news headlines and other web
content. RSS feeds are usually used by web sites as a 'table of contents'
for recently published content. If a web site has an RSS feed,
BusterNews
can fetch the feed for you.
Tip: You can usually tell if a web site provides an RSS feed by orange
icons that link to their feeds. Some of these icons might look like
or
. Clicking on these icons on the web sites you
visit will open a document that is somewhat readable, but not really. This is
because the document is meant to be read more by applications such as
BusterNews
, rather than by humans. So if your favorite web site provides an RSS
feed, let
BusterNews
deliver the web to you! You can enter the address that the icons point to into
your
BusterNews
feed sources.
